The judges’ decisions are fair, independent and final. The judges will discuss the nominees to come to a final joint decision. Judges will be asked to look for positive and uplifting themes in the shortlisted titles and how these themes have been explored for Picture Book of the Year and Special Recognition Award. For Author of the Year, judges will be asked to look at elements such as the author’s lyricism in text. Judging for Illustrator of the Year will look at elements such as their chosen expressions for their characters and vividness.
